Commercials and Accessibility

Intro

Throughout looking for ads for my blog post, one that really stood out to me was actually a foreign ad. It is an ad for Thai Life Insurance, an insurance company located in Thailand. The commercial itself is very good at inducing emotions and even won best advertisement of the year back in 2014, as mentioned in the title. There were some things I noticed that can be both good and bad when it comes to those that are either hearing impaired or visually impaired.

Commercial

a. For hearing impaired audiences, it helps out because of the subtitles on the screen. Another way it helps hearing impaired audiences is that it has plenty of visuals of what the man does throughout his day.

b. The commercial could improve as well by adding extra subtitles for what people were saying during the commercial. When you can't hear it, the visuals can become slightly confusing which could make it hard to get the message of the commercial across.

c. The commercial helps out visually impaired audiences by using a voice over. The voice over does a nice job in explaining what the man is doing throughout his day, which is really helpful if you can't see whats going on in the commercial.

d. One way it could improve is that some parts of the commercial seem a little chaotic if you can't see it, such as when he is helping the lady move her cart or when she is selling food to people as well. This could be very confusing since you can't see the context of those scenes. It would also be hard because the subtitles don't describe his actions in detail, as this is only seen visually, so that could come off very confusing if you can't see the commercial as well.
